Nondifferentiation of -n and -ng

[edit]

I don't know exactly what explains the spellings Jianxi, 'Kuomingtang', 'Xingjiang'/'Singkiang', Qinling/Qingling[1][2], Xingqing/Xinqing- [3], Xingping and Xinping are noted as confusable on Xingping, Guangxi/Citations:Guanxi, 'Jingsha', 'Beigang'[1] for Beigan, 'Tungying' (when referring to Tungyin Citations:Tungyin), Mingfeng/Minfeng diff, Nuangdong/Nuandong - diff vs [4], Fenxian/Fengxian [5], Shaangxi, 'Shangtung' (Shandong [6] etc), [7] 427th warning Pinhhai/Pinghai, Tongyong Pinyin: Cinpu/Cingpu [8], 'Guandong', Xingang/Xinggang [9], Hsin/Hsing, Hsin/Hsing, maybe the second g in Ching-chong, Yanggang/Yangang, Yinchuan and 'Yingchuan'[10], 'Jin'an' and 'Chingkankousaurus', but I have a strong suspicion that it has something to do with the infernal problem of Nondifferentiation of -n and -ng. This may be a kind of trend among misspellings which should be recognized, anticipated and explained to Wiktionary readers. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 17:02, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
