Meaning of the Gorzów element

Judging from the etymology, it looks like Gorzów is equivalent to the German Landsberg, but it doesn't look like a calque; but is it one? What does that element of the names Gorzów Wielkopolski and Gorzów Śląski mean? And does the word ever occur alone, or only in phrases like these two? It's not a calque. Gorzów Śląski has both a Polish and a German name which are independent of each other. It was a town at an ethnic boundary and the Slavic and Germanic peoples had separate names for it. Gorzów is derived either from goreć (“archaic: to burn”) or from gorzelnia (“distillery”) - I'll add these words soon. --Tweenk (talk) 21:07, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
