I don't find any cites for this before 1900, and have a strong feeling that it was first used by Einstein in the Special Relativity paper. On the other hand, it would be quite conceivable for it to have been coined by Kant or Wolff, or some 19th-century figure. Google Books doesn't have sufficient German coverage for me to be very confident. Can anyone else confirm the first use? -- Visviva 15:22, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
