Eithne is pronounced ETHNA, it has nothing to do with EDNA
- Maybe not in English, but apparently the name in Scots (when it's not borrowed from English) derives from Eithne. Chuck Entz (talk) 21:25, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Mmmaybe, but it's more likely that this is a case where an English name of non-Gaelic origin was adopted as the anglicized equivalent of a Gaelic name that it bears some similarity to but is not etymologically related to. You see a lot of these in Ireland, like Sarah/Sorcha, Charles/Cathal, Agnes/Úna, Daniel/Domhnall, Grace/Gráinne, and so on. I'm sure there are plenty of similar examples from Scotland, and strongly suspect Edna/Eithne is one. —Angr 12:56, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
