There are two conflicting etymologies for the word Dieffenbachia. Under Dieffenbachia, Wikipedia says: "Dieffenbachia was named by Heinrich Wilhelm Schott, director of the Botanical Gardens in Vienna, to honor his head gardener Joseph Dieffenbach (1796–1863)."
