Best of

At the very least, this shouldn't be capitalized, or if so, why? Mglovesfun (talk) 16:18, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

• Well, (deprecated template usage) best of has a different meaning. Something like "a majority of games in a series such as to find an overall winner". ("Best of three?") SemperBlotto 16:27, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

The OED's run-in entry for the colloquial music sense is headed “best-of,” and has quotations with The best of Beachcomber [title], ‘Best Ofs’, ‘best-of’, ‘Best of’ and best-ofs (quotation marks sic). The varied capitalization is a contextual style when the term is used in a title, or when title use is alluded to. The sense should probably be moved to best of, and the entry deleted. —Michael Z. 2010-03-25 18:45 z

Seems similar to 'world cup' - specific world cups are capitalized (Football World Cup) but not the noun just on its own. Best of the Beatles is gonna be capitalized as a proper noun. That's my take. See also Arms above. Mglovesfun (talk) 22:46, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
