pronunciation

though much noticed, I think the supposed [bd] pronunciations might be how some dialects of US English sound to others' ears, even other Americans. If the vowel is not shortened before the cluster, even an actual [pt] might sound like [bt] or [bd] to listeners used to hearing a short vowel there.
