@Krun, BiT, BigDom Would anyone like to add a pronunciation and a quotation to the entry (so it can be used as a FWOTD)? ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 07:46, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Lingo Bingo Dingo Done, added the declension too (which made me realise that the "indef=" option in the Icelandic templates is only there for show...). BigDom 08:23, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- @BigDom Actually, indefinite forms exist for this and all nouns, except perhaps a very small number of nouns that are only used in set phrases. For example, one always uses indefinite forms in constructions with demonstratives – þessi Bandaríki (“these/those United States”), þau Bandaríki sem ég þekki (“the United States I know”) – and with the loose article: hin miklu Bandaríki (“the great United States”). They are also frequently used for place names that otherwise are in the definite form in constructions of the type [directional adverb] [preposition] [place name]: e.g. the small lake in central Reykavík is called Tjörnin (“the pond”), but one would say niður að Tjörn (“down to the pond”). – Krun (talk) 10:47, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Lingo Bingo Dingo Sorry, just realised you asked for a quotation too. I'll try and find a good one. BigDom 08:33, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- @BigDom It's an surely old one, but would this be a good quote? Bandaríkin halda miklum her á norðurbökkum Rio Grande fljótsins, er um langt ræður landamerkjum milli þeirra og Mexico; hann á að hafa gát á því er gerist fyrir sunnan og verja úthlaup suður að norðan.
