I'm SSL on a public Internet terminal. I've only seen this capitalized in the context that I'm thinking of. There's a whole series of volumes: Mich App - Michigan Court of Appeals Reports. Other states have similar appeals courts which have similar abbreviations. This abbreviation, I believe, can also mean "appellant" or "appellee", but I have to check some of my old briefs before I can say for sure.
