@Mårtensås, is this suffix attested elsewhere? Couldn't Arnhǫfði just be syncopated arn + hǫfuð + -i? – Sokkjō 08:56, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- That is the etymology, yes, but hǫfði is pretty well attested in nicknames:
- Bjarnhǫfði ‘bear-head’
- Hesthǫfði ‘horse-head’
- Hjarthǫfði ‘stag-head’
- Hvíthǫfði ‘white-head’
- Ketilhǫfði ‘kettle-head’
- Svarthǫfði ‘black-head’
