-astry

[edit]

there's also -astry for the activity of an -aster. I found the sentence

He is quite capable of such an enormity of philologastry.

although it was in a dictionary. I havent found it in running text, even in an old book, so far, but presumably if that word exists, -astry exists. Soap 21:11, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Soap I have found philologastry in running text (here). We have entries for poetastry and criticastry. theologastry also exists. A separate entry for the suffix seems warranted. Einstein2 (talk) 21:24, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Philologastry is my favorite word now, at least until I find a new one. I work slowly, but as I understand it, if we have three words using that suffix, the suffix is considered attested, so I should be able to do this if nobody else gets to it first.
