Note

[edit]

that up until about 20 seconds ago, several Wiki pages were repeating the apparently mistaken claim this name referred to the Greek Melite and Latin Melita, modern Mdina in Malta's uplands. Wiki only had it sourced to unreliable popular books but Vella & some other more reliable works seem to show that this name applied to chief Punic harbor and the island itself and its capital at Mdina were 'NN. The Romans then used their name for the island (derived from the harbor) for its capital after they took over in the Second Punic War. — LlywelynII 06:22, 7 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
