@Holodwig21 Are you sure there are Germanic cognates of this that would justify positing a Proto-Germanic ancestor? It looks like a straightforward calque of γενεαλογία (genealogía) to me (this is what Köbler also claims). — Mnemosientje (t · c) 16:14, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

@Mnemosientje: Well I don't have cognates that would explained the word, but the existence of an "i" in gabaurþiwaurd when the Gothic form, 𐌲𐌰𐌱𐌰𐌿𐍂𐌸𐍃 (gabaurþs), doesn´t carry an "i" alludes me to the possibility of it coming from Proto-Germanic. 𐌷𐌻𐌿𐌳𐌰𐍅𐌹𐌲𐍃 𐌰𐌻𐌰𐍂𐌴𐌹𐌺𐌹𐌲𐌲𐍃 16:28, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

@Holodwig21: This is easily explained by the fact that 𐌲𐌰𐌱𐌰𐌿𐍂𐌸𐍃 (gabaurþs) is an i-stem: the thematic vowel (in this case an i) is hidden in the nominative singular, but in compounds it very often does manifest. This is regular in Gothic compounds, you see it with the "hidden" -a- in a-stem nouns too when they are used to form compounds (see Category:Gothic compound words) — Mnemosientje (t · c) 16:53, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
