Talk:齊齊哈爾
Add topicHey @Theknightwho, I want to say that I believe that Qiqihaer (and maybe Qiqiha'er) are (1) extant (2) alternative (3) English language names for Qiqihar. I believe this on the basis of the citations at Citations:Qiqihaer. I imagine you removed Qiqiha'er and Qiqihaer from the t2 and t3 positions because they are not the standard or official names for Qiqihar in English. While I sympathize and perhaps agree, I would like to suggest that t2 and t3 have no purpose EXCEPT to tell readers about other forms they might encounter. t2 and t3 are not t1. In my philosophy, t2 and t3 are less important, less relevant, less common, and less accepted than t1 (otherwise, they would be the t1). To my view, there is no way that t2 and t3 are ever equal to t1, except in that they all refer to the same thing. Wiktionary is not endorsing Qiqiha'er or Qiqihaer but merely informing the reader "you will see Qiqihar, but you might also see Qiqihaer, and it's not a bald error but is instead an alternative". That's my view. Feel free to disagree. I sympathize with what I think your position might be, but I think Wiktionary is built to display the rawness, ugliness, and un-uniformness of English language and tell readers the actual usage situation. That's why I like to display these t2 and t3s. That's me. Do as you will! --Geographyinitiative, Repeat Thought Crime Offender (talk) 01:28, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
