Current Usage
[edit]@Mlgc1998 Do you have any sources of current usage? Or it's just an old map? And where did you get the pronunciation? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 07:04, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Mlgc1998: Where'd you get the pronunciation here? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:10, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser can ask sir Dixon who grew up in Cotabato City of Maguindanao del Norte how exactly they pronounce their province in Hokkien. Mlgc1998 (talk) 13:31, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- I think Betty dela Cruz is also another of his childhood friends who grew up in Cotabato City. I think their school was Cotabato City Institute 古島中華中學. Mlgc1998 (talk) 13:33, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Mlgc1998: Are you sure it's "Má-kun-ta-lǎu" and not "Má-kun-ta-láu"? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 09:19, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser As I remember how I made some of the ph hokkien placename entries here. I remember consulting my dad how he would say (insert province) to confirm how it would sound like and naturally be said. of course, his natural reaction would be confusion then try to revert to trying to say the mainstream english name of the province, but under his behavioral native hokkien accent. I would take into account that accent of his that added tones and compare the tones to other words with confirmed tones and see which ones were the same in the pitch monitor app. For this one, it was "Má-kun-ta-lǎu". And then, if I knew a filchi from that province who knew or at least has heard of hokkien, I'd confirm if they'd say it the same, but for this one, I had not yet found many people from there to confirm, which that is also why I did not continue further with adding other provinces anymore despite knowing the characters until meeting more cases of people saying the same come up. In this case, we do now have a few native hokkien speakers we know who do come from there or said they grew up there, which is sir Dixon and Betty, which if u wanna confirm, u can ask them how'd they pronounce Maguindanao in lán-nâng-uē written in POJ or so.
