[edit]Is the pinyin jiàomǔ, xiàomǔ, or both? 71.66.97.228 02:53, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- The former is the official pronunciation however the latter is also used in some regions. In the future when you create Mandarin entries would you mind using the proper formatting? It saves the rest of us a lot of work. See How to Create a Basic Chinese Entry for more information. Cheers. ---> Tooironic 07:05, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, jiàomǔ is the standard pronunciation, as deduced from the Middle Chinese pronunciation of 酵. Lots of people also say xiàomǔ, by analogy with 孝 (xiào). Pronouncing it as xiàomǔ in formal situations would be regarded as an indication of the low education level of the speaker. Hbrug 09:30, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
