Talk:草叢
Difference between 草叢 and 叢林
[edit]Template:Wikipedia There are three Chinese character explanations for the meaning of the Kyrgyz name for Boritokay: one reads "意为有狼的草丛" (Xie Yuzhong, 2003) and one reads "意为有狼的丛林" (Kizilsu prefecture website, 2018) and "意为“野狼出没的森林”" (Baidu Baike, from an unsourced 2009 edit [1]). User:Cncs wikipedia ('Cncs' meaning 'China Changsha') has a passable command of English, but is weak on grammar and some details- no offense is intended: the user is awesome. The user translated Kizilsu.gov's 丛林 as 'forest' for English Wikipedia, possibly influenced by Baidu Baike's 森林. The user was almost certainly not aware of Xie Yuzhong's 草丛. But given that this area is on the edge of the desert and really doesn't look that green, and given that Cncs wikipedia seemingly tried to explain away the 'forest' by saying "According to legend, there was a forest in the place"- I didn't find that explanation anywhere, although it could be out there I guess- I therefore conclude that 'Boritokay' probably means "grassland with wolves in it" or "brushland with wolves in it". It is an interesting point of comparison between the meanings of 草叢, 叢林, 森林 and the Kyrgyz term in question, so I thought I would note it here- the seeming interchangability may imply some "synonym" relationships or "see also" relationships between these terms that we have not yet added here. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 14:01, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
