The "味" kanji shouldn't be ateji since it means "flavor." Dragonman9001 (talk) 23:19, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Dragonman9001, while the character 味 indeed means flavor, the -mi suffix in umami does not mean flavor, and instead is a common suffix used to turn an adjective into a noun in a manner similar to the English suffix -ness. Since the character is used phonetically to spell something, it is technically ateji. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 23:34, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
