Etymology
[edit]Amazingly, both this and 3Q seem to be shared by Chinese and Japanese slang. I wonder it started. In Japanese, apart from 3 + Q it can be read as 3 + 9 (三 and 九 are pronounced san-kyū) --Anatoli 04:17, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
IPA
[edit]Is "Q" really /kʰy/? —suzukaze (t・c) 08:30, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, in non-standard pinyin it would be "kü", "k" as in 喀 ([kʰ]) and "ü" as in 女 ([y]). --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 10:37, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
- I would have expected it to be something like /kʰiw/. /kʰy/ sounds really strange to me. —suzukaze (t・c) 03:44, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
kiu4
[edit]@WikiWinters The pronunciation "kiu4" is used in Cantonese, not Mandarin. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 04:45, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
