Wikipedia's article uses the word chinpira but has the title chimpira. Why? Is it a valid alternative? Equinox ◑ 19:40, 29 April 2019 (UTC)

- @Eirikr: Thanks. I'm aware of the page, though. I think we can link to it in the headword templates, such as using the dot notation “ちんぴら • (chinpira)”. But unfortunately this would disable accelerating.
- Ah, I was introduced to the Japanese language (and the wonderful world of anime and manga) by a similar page, which served as a pronunciation guide for me in 2014. Otherwise, I would never have picked up Japanese due to the complexity of kana and kanji :) --Dine2016 (talk) 02:57, 2 May 2019 (UTC)

One disadvantage is that acceleration of romaji entries is no longer available. However, @Atitarev argued against treating romaji as words so it might not hurt. Another disadvantage is that historical hiragana is no longer includeable. - @Dine2016: Japanese rōmaji entries are allowed as one of the few exceptions but I strongly object to treating them as words or terms and hyperlinking them or otherwise treating them as such. Wiktionary:Votes/pl-2013-03/Japanese Romaji romanization - format and content is a result of the long fight to bring normalcy, so that entries like [[dentaku]] are mere soft redirects to the Japanese kana, so that no-one could get an impression that it's OK to replace complex Japanese writing system with Roman letters. I also object to any new transliterations treated as words. In the past rōmaji and pinyin entries were heavily used as full-blown terms with etymologies, synonyms, usage examples, etc. --Anatoli T.
