Wait, I thought that palatalized [s] was realized as [ɕ]. Is there a distinction? ThighFish (talk) 17:43, 1 March 2021 (UTC) =OK, Wikipedia says this syllable isn't phonemically distinct from [ɕi], and this is only in the case of distinctions akin to an English speaker distinguishing [hj] and [ç], for example, where the latter is the phonetic realization of what otherwise would be the former. — This unsigned comment was added by ThighFish (talk • contribs) at 00:19, 2 March 2021 (UTC).
- @ThighFish: It's used in transcription of foreign words (or quirky speech), where [si] needs to be distinguished from [ɕi].
- @LittleWhole: You need to add notes to these entries, so as not to mislead people like this. —Suzukaze-c (talk) 06:16, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
