@Dixtosa It has to come from ჭიდავ- how else can you explain this word? The circumfix is მო--ე but it is not used on verbs, only on სახელები. მო +ჭიდაობა+ე is a false information. Same goes with ცურაობა - მოცურავე... ცურაობა is created from ცურვა too. ჭიდაობა could come from ჭიდვა/ჭიდავი even if we don't know it. -ა is not the only verbal noun maker, -ი is used too, It is used with intransitive verbs (compare სიყვარული, სიცილი (iirc)) So why can't these medial verbs do the same? You said ვ appears for different reasons? I did think that at first that it was "insert ვ" as in ა-ხე-ვ-ებ-ს but I doubt it because then ჭიდა has to be the root of the noun/adjective. @Solarkoid: What is ჭიდავი? Is it Old Georgian? I am not sure how მოჭიდავე was formed but if I had to guess Id say it was circumfixed around the original root of ჭიდაობა. Dixtosa (talk) 11:05, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

@Dixtosa: Ye, I was definitely mistaken on that one. I forgot that, that thing even existed. მო-ჭიდავ-ე where ჭიდავ is the root of ჭიდა(ვ)-ობ-ს. It is indeed a agent-denoting present participle. Though I think ობ there is a secondary thematic suffix and -ავ- is the primary. cf. ცურ-ავ-ს <-> ცურ-ა(ვ)-ობ-ს. Anyways, changed the მო--ე stuff already I think: მო-ნადირ-ე (<- ნადირ-ობ-ს), მო-ცურ-ავ-ე (<- ცურ-ა(ვ)-ობ-ს), მო-ცეკვ-ავ-ე (<-*ცეკვ-ა(ვ)-ობ-ს). Basically the circumfix is used on medial verbs with ებ/ობ thematic suffix. მო-ცეკვ-ავ-ე is kind of a special, irregular case though it seems. -Solarkoid (talk) 13:02, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Came to add something, -ჭიდ- itself seems like a root of series of words which correspond to strength: მჭიდრო, ჭიდილი, ჭიდა... Haven't looked in klimov or any other etymological dictionary yet maybe they have it. -Solarkoid (talk) 13:05, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
