Glides in minor syllables

@Wyang, Angr Hi. Is the 2nd pronunciation correct here? Should it be / t͡ɕənɔ̀/, not /kənɔ̀/? The respelling has "ကျ". "Burmese for Beginners by Gene Mesher uses "jə-nɔ" (low tones are unmarked). --Anatoli T. ^{(обсудить}/^вклад) 07:37, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, you are right Anatoli. I was trying to make the module more intelligent by stripping any glides when it is a minor syllable (e.g. pra' --> pə), but the rule seems incorrect now. Wyang (talk) 07:44, 3 March 2017 (UTC)

@Wyang: Indeed, t͡ɕ does not reduce to k in minor syllables. And although the glides that are pronounced as glides are usually deleted in minor syllables, there is at least one exception. One of the Burmese Wikipedians, I think it was either Hintha or Hybernator, assured me many years ago, much to my surprise, that မြန်မာ can be pronounced /mjəmà/ as well as /mjàɴmà/. ဗမာ /bəmà/ does, of course, come from a version where the minor syllable not only loses its glide but also dissimilates its nasal to an oral stop. —Aɴɢʀ (talk) 15:41, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
