Etymology fix
[edit]The "gua" portion most likely came into Thai not from Mandarin but from one of the southern Chinese dialects. I think "Mandarin" should be changed to "Chinese." 24.29.228.33 02:18, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- Cantonese is gwa1 and the language code for that is yue. The language codes zh and cmn both give Mandarin. I don’t think there is an etymological language code for General Chinese. —Stephen 02:29, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

The earliest Chinese immigrants to Thailand, I believe, were from Fujian (maybe Min Nan speakers), but the largest group are the Chaozhou, who speak their own dialect of Min Nan. Cantonese are smaller in number though not insignificant, and there are also Hakka. 24.29.228.33 03:02, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
