[edit]According to thai2english.com, this word is of Pali or Sanskrit origin, but I've been unable to find a word it may have come from. — [Ric Laurent] — 22:47, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- From Sanskrit अङ्ग or Pali aṅga ("limb, constituent/characteristic part") and the
nativeword ชาต ("to be born"). Hbrug 22:58, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- I think that's ชาตะ (chaa-dtà, “to be born”). There's also ชาติ (châat, “life, existence”). — [Ric Laurent] — 23:12, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
- hmm,
ชาต chaatF verb, formal, loanword, Pali to be born adjective, formal, loanword, Pali [is] born; existing; appearing; grown; arisen; produced; manifest; extant; [does] exist
So it's equivalent to Skt. अङ्गजात ("produced by a supplementary ceremony, produced from or on the body, ornamental"). Hbrug 23:23, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
