I think the first syllable may be the remnant of some prefix, perhaps from some other language. I'm not sure though. It could well be (what's called in Sino-Tibetan linguistics) a prefix run from the other zodiac signs. Wyang (talk) 08:19, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- It's true that the word is originated as "โรง". But when it comes with มะเส็ง มะเมีย มะแม, "โรง" then becomes "มะโรง" to rhyme with those words. Nothing special with this "มะ". --Octahedron80 (talk) 09:02, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
