Sanskritic "compound"

Inqilābī, how is it a compound when one of the components is a suffix? Note that {{com}} also doesn't add suf(/pre)fix cats. Svārtava² • 15:56, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

@Svartava2, Bhagadatta: I think ’twould be better if {{sa-com}} accommodates affixes as well. In Sanskritic formations in contemporary NIA languages, prefixes and suffixes are very productive elements: for instance, Bengali uses the affixes সম- (śom-), -ইক (-ik), -তা (-ta), -ত্ব (-ttô), -কারী (-kari), -কামী (-kami), etc. to form Sanskritic compounds. Therefore, it would make more sense if the usage of a hyphen with a word in the templet generates a category for Sanskritic compound as well as the specific prefix or suffix. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 13:43, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

@Inqilābī: Thanks for the reply. Yes I guess I would like that for words like प्रमस्तिष्क (pramastiṣk). However, compound isn't the best possible term to be used here: note that {{affix}}, which can be used for categorisation by compound, doesn't categorise if there are dashes in any. Eg {{af|hi|प्र-|मस्तिष्क}} = CAT:Hindi words prefixed with प्र-, not CAT:Hindi compound words. Svārtava² • 14:22, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

@Svartava2: When I had proposed the creation of {{sa-com}}, what I had in mind was formation from tatsama elements, words, affixes, or whatever. So, to accommodate affixes, I guess the templet should be renamed to {{sa-af}}; the text generation could be: ‘Sanskritic formation from X + Y’, where X, Y are tatsama words or affixes. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 14:37, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
