@Per utramque cavernam: hi.wiki has a tendency for clever calques. It just means "union" or "harmony", but "assimilation" is, I suppose, a reasonable interpretation as well. सम्मेलन (sammelan) is basically the same thing. —Aryaman^{A (मुझसे बात करें • योगदान)} 00:34, 24 January 2018 (UTC)

@Per utramque cavernam: Not sure, at least in the phonetic sense. I think सम्मिलन (sammilan) is good, actually. Generally speaking though, if it is used in the sense of "assimilation", it is in the sense "assimilation of culture". संधि (sandhi) probably covers "assimilation". —Aryaman^{A (मुझसे बात करें • योगदान)} 01:20, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
