Usage in Iran

@User:ZxxZxxZ I somewhat erroneously assumed this term is not used in Iran as I've only seen چتنی at Afghan family gatherings and restaurants, never at Iranian ones. But then I saw that Persian Wikipedia has a page called چتنی and since Persian Wiki is not typically inclusive of Dari... I can only assume that either a) The Dari name is used since chatni only eaten in Afghanistan and there isn't really a common name for it in Iran or b) chatni is eaten in —at least in some regions of— Iran and I was making a stupid assumption.

Could you spread some light on the situation? Is this term is used at all in Iran? Is it safe to label this term as "Dari"? Right now the header is using the Dari transliteration which would need to be changed if it's not exclusive to Afghanistan. — SAMEER (؂・؄・؏) 06:02, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi Sameer, as far as I know ot is not used in Iran, and the word could not be found in Persian dictionaries (looked up using Vajehyab). Persian WP actually includes Dari to some extent. --Z 07:18, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

There are some editors who try to include Dari, but in my experience there are many editors who go out of their way to exclude Dari. Like how bananas are called کیله in Afghanistan or potatoes are called کچالو but that has no mention in PW, and editors have removed it after people attempted to add it in the past. As if the terminology used in Afghanistan is less correct than the terminology used in Iran. — SAMEER (؂・؄・؏) 19:39, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
