@Fay Freak The word for freckles is نَمَش (namaš) (I'll create an entry for it). كَلَف (kalaf) is only used for the melasma disorder. I find Steingass' unreliable every time I encounter it. فين أخاي (talk) 22:05, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

@Fenakhay: Thanks. I confirm that Steingass is the sloppiest of Classical Arabic dictionary translations, I always ignored it, also because the alphabetic order perplexes me (another sign of disorder in him). This meaning range in particular has been hard to know for someone not dealing often with dermatological affairs and if someone translates a dictionary containing a description about something like “brown spots on the skin” he of course gets the most easy or common concept that can be described thus and so while the original definition was technically correct the academic bilingual dictionary gets it wrong because of lacking experience. Every dictionary has it wrong. The most recent Wehr (5th; the 6th edition is promised for December, I see now) has Sommersprosse, Corriente, Federico, Pereira, Christophe, Vicente, Angeles, editors (2017), Dictionnaire du faisceau dialectal arabe andalou. Perspectives phraséologiques et étymologiques (in French), Berlin: De Gruyter, →ISBN has “tache de rousseur”, Baranov has веснушки (vesnuški), Cortés, Julio (1996) “كلف”, in Diccionario de árabe culto moderno (in Spanish), 1st edition, Madrid: Gredos, →ISBN has “pecas”, giving كَلَفَة (kalafa) as singulative (which may be doubted, as كُلْفَة (kulfa) also means spots – on the root entry I glossed abstractly “a costly spot on something” because Wehr also gives meanings of ornaments like buttons etc. and “trimmings, fittings”, you might create it too according to experience).
