@Andronovo: No, the Arabic is not from Latin. You can read literally on that Arabic word’s page that it is also present in another vocalism in Aramaic, and it is also called كَلْبَتَانِ (kalbatāni, two dogs), so there is no reason to assume anything other than that it is from the Semitic word for dog.
