There are various ways to transliterate the same thing but it was decided to use just "t". There is a number of sounds in Persian, which are rendered with different letters, e.g. "s" can be written as س‎, ث or ص. --Anatoli T. ^{(обсудить}/^вклад) 04:18, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Both ط and ت are pronounced the same in Persian, like /t/. However, only ت is used for native Persian words. ط is used for words of Arabic origin. Arabic ط (ṭ) is pronounced /ṭ/ or /ţ/, and some writers might try to indicate the Arabic pronunciation of the letter, even though Persian does not use such a pronunciation. —Stephen ^(Talk) 06:20, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, that is really helpful. I guess the different transliterations would be mainly to differentiate whether the word is borrowed or indigenous (the way Thai or Hebrew retain several different letters for consonants that are pronounced the same way). 173.89.236.187 20:51, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
