No doubt from the root w-th-q. There are also other words that lose an initial w- like حِدة (ḥida) and جِهة (jiha). I just wonder as what kind of "measure" this would be analysed by the grammarians? 77.11.54.148 00:12, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
