schwa in Moroccan Darija

[edit]

@Fay Freak I completely disagree. The schwa and vowel dropping are some of the major phonetic features of Moroccan Darija. Smoothing them out into normal vowels amounts to misrepresenting the actual pronunciation of the words. One may as well just include the Standard Arabic word in that case. Granted, there are different regional varieties, so at the very least, the schwa-variant should be included. By the way, the defacto "Standard" Moroccan Darija (the one used on TV and in the radio) is based on the spoken dialect of Rabat, which is definitely an urban dialect that abounds with schwas. --Ideophagous (talk) 12:48, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Ideophagous: We aren’t misrepresenting anything. The transcription should not be a copy of the IPA of Rabat, and these schwas would be guessable anyway. Also you should better talk to @Fenakhay, who is very knowledgeable about the dialect and responsible for most of its entries, where your favourite system is not used. I am just making sure not every time some one new arrives a differing transcription system is introduced. Fay Freak (talk) 12:54, 3 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
