- This:
(al-madiina al-munáwwara) ?
- What stardard is it given in? Is there any article anywhere for such a standeard (if it is the one meant), and must there be any link to that article on the page? Josh L. 16:16, 5 May 2011 (UTC) Cheers!
- It is described in Wiktionary:About Arabic. It is a transcription system and we try to provide a transliteration for every non-Roman entry. Many of the transliterations are described in the Wiktionary:About pages, but a few are too problematic and editors who are able to transliterate them just use their best judgment. No non-Roman page links to an explanation of the transliteration. They are mostly a matter of common sense and/or common practice. It’s only when we add an IPA or SAMPA pronunciation section that we link to a page that describes the phonology for that language. —Stephen (Talk) 23:36, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'll just add that this transliteration is in line with formal spoken Arabic or pausal form, a form close to many spoken dialects but not the dialect, not quite like Classical Arabic and does not provide case endings, e.g. not al-madiinatu 'l-munawwaratu as the classical pronunciation would be. --Anatoli 00:28, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
