The Hebrew Academy takes up this question at http://hebrew-academy.huji.ac.il/sheelot_teshuvot/MivharTeshuvot/Pages/08111101.aspx, and it seems like excellent fodder for a usage note. (They say, in part, that there's nothing to choose between them.)
