[edit]How exactly is shoon a derivation of *kwo? — This unsigned comment was added by 220.52.182.122 (talk) at 18:43, 6 June 2008.
- First, it's not "kwo" but "ḱwṓ", and Armenian reflex is not of a nominative singular, but of oblique case with */n/. PIE */ḱ/ is expected to have a reflex of affricate/fricative in Satem language like Armenian, and PIE long */ō/ gives regularly Grabar */u/, so in the end šun < *ḱwōn looks pretty regular to me. When you inspect more closely, it doesn't differ so much from other Satem cognates, e.g. Sanskrit श्वन् (śván), Latvian suns etc. --Ivan Štambuk 17:11, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- Let's not forget the ridiculously close Lithuanian šuo (genitive šuns). — [ ric ] opiaterein — 14:44, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
