Identification

[edit]

@Wyang, only a few dictionaries mention this word, Dianthus superbus is from Bolor, Great Academic Dictionary calls it гвоздика and says it's used in traditional medicine, Sukhebaatar says it's Dianthus versicolor (Fisch). Combining definitions from Sukhebaatar and mongoltoli.mn it is a:

  1. solitary flower
  2. perennial
  3. has тэнэгэр (smooth, erect or straight) petals
  4. grows in forests
  5. has reddish purple (хондон ягаан) petals
  6. the upper side has sharp thorns

@Crom daba I'm pretty happy with the correspondence. This article (p. 95) discusses the identification of the Tibetan medical plant yu mo mde'u 'byin in detail. This is identified variously as Paraquilegia microphylla, Dianthus superbus, and Erodium stephanium. Wyang (talk) 01:05, 9 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
