Ingrian šulkku

[edit]

@Thadh, why doesn't Ingrian šulkku belong on this page? -- Sokkjō 18:48, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sokkjo: It can be better placed under the dialectal entry once that is created. A borrowing from шёлк would result in *šolkka/*šolkku, and since the Russian dialectal form needs some explaining, it's probably getting its own etymology section. Thadh (talk) 19:57, 18 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Thadh: Maybe Russian has its own conventions, I don't know, but most languages will have a main entry where all descendants are kept, regardless of which dialectal variant they're from. What about doing this? -- Sokkjō 05:14, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sokkjo: That seems preferable, but I'm not convinced that шулк is etymologically identical to шёлк: it might be from a different OES form or even from Old Novgorodian. Thadh (talk) 08:59, 19 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
