@Atitarev, Cinemantique, Wikitiki89, Wanjuscha, Per utramque cavernam, Guldrelokk Can a native Russian speaker explain to me what у́зок means other than its normal meaning as the short form of у́зкий? Zaliznyak says that у́зкий has short forms of type c'* (у́зок, узка́, у́зко, узки́/у́зки) but that there's also a separate у́зок of type c''* (у́зок, узка́, узко́/у́зко, узки́/у́зки -- note that this lemma allows neuter узко́ whereas у́зкий doesn't); he glosses it as (у́же, чем нужно). The dictionary entries I can find on this indicate that it means "narrow" (specifically of clothes), which seems to correspond to the meaning of у́зкий, so I'm confused. I think the simplest way is to combine c'* and c''*, as the Russian Wiktionary has done. IMO, "узко́" is less common but is used in the same way as "у́зок".--Anatoli T. ^{(обсудить}/^вклад) 04:11, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

I’m not sure whether this is lexical or not. When one says, for example, ботинки мне узки́, one isn’t just saying they are narrow, but that they are too narrow for one to wear, this is what Zaliznyak means. Same for малы (maly) and велики (veliki), which are also the normal short forms of малый (malyj) and великий (velikij). Guldrelokk (talk) 04:12, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

After "ec". OK, thanks for the screenshot. c''* can only be used in the short forms. Это платье мне мало́/велико́/узко́: "This dress is too small/big/tight to me". The short form includes the sense "too". --Anatoli T. ^{(обсудить}/^вклад) 04:21, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

@Atitarev, Guldrelokk Interestingly, Zaliznyak makes the same distinction with широкий, except that the long form "wide" is of short type c'' and the short form "too wide" is of type b, meaning that широ́ко and широ́ки can only have the sense "wide", not "too wide".
