@Atitarev, Cinemantique, Wikitiki89 Can you explain what part of speech these comparatives are, and whether they can be comparatives of both adjectives and adverbs, or only adverbs? Benwing2 (talk) 06:46, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- They are better dobe as comparatives of adverbs. The majority of adjectives use adverbial comparatives. There is only a limited number of true adjectival comparative forms (declinable). Wiki also agreed to that a while ago. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 08:09, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- Their actual part of speech is similar to a neuter short form, so it can sometimes be adjectival and sometimes adverbial. Also, as I believe I've mentioned before, I pronounce the second "е" of the -ее suffix as [-jə]. As Cinemantique mentioned in #11 in our long discussion, the phoneme should be [-je] (and [-jə] in Moscow accent), not [-jɪ] (after correcting for our change in symbols). --WikiTiki89 15:32, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Atitarev, Cinemantique, Wikitiki89 OK. There are two issues -- the part of speech of the comparative, and the part of speech of the term that it's a comparative of. It seems clear that these -е and -ее forms are themselves adverbs, but what about the part of speech of the underlying term? In this entry, I indicated that it can be a comparative of both adjective трудолюбивый and adverb трудолюбиво, which seems reasonable. However, in the past, Anatoli has deleted "comparative of adjective X" definitions, as in хуже, which now only describes it as a comparative of adverb плохо and not of adjective плохой. It seems to me there's nothing inherently wrong with having an adverb be a comparative of an adjective, but I may be mistaken. Benwing2 (talk) 18:08, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

- The comparatives themselves are adverbs, with the exception of a few comparative adjectives, like лучший. I don't mind if they also use "comparative of adjective X". In some cases, it's just the underlying adjective it refers to, e.g. ста́рше (stárše). --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 22:00, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
