(Notifying Atitarev, Cinemantique, Useigor, Wikitiki89, Stephen G. Brown, Guldrelokk, Fay Freak, Tetromino, Per utramque cavernam): Where are the stresses in this expression, and is тех pronounced [tʲex] or reduced [tʲɪx]? Benwing2 (talk) 02:18, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Benwing2: тех (tex), consequentially unreduced. пор (por) is neither reduced, since this is a multiple-word expression. Fay Freak (talk) 03:31, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Benwing2: "пор" has the expression stress but other words have word stresses and not reduced. There probably shouldn't be a stress in the IPA on [ˈs‿tʲex], since it's monosyllabic (?). --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 04:38, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hm it depends much on context if пор or тех is stressed. This by contrast: Когда я был маленьким, я не общался c людьми, но с тех пор как я стал заниматься спортом, у меня стало много друзей. Not stressed on тех for you @Atitarev? Fay Freak (talk) 04:49, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Fay Freak: Do you mean "тех" in your example? As I said, each word here is individually stressed and unreduced, which is normal but "пор" has a stronger stress in the group "с тех пор". It's prepositions or particle "не", which form a single stress unit, which is not the case here. Sorry, I often find it difficult to understand what you mean. Maybe we are agreeing? --Anatoli T. - @Atitarev There's a rule in the pronunciation module that a monosyllabic word following an unstressed preposition is always marked as stressed (unless it itself is followed by a tie bar). I can change that rule for monosyllabic с, в, к if you'd rather. Benwing2 (talk) 05:55, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Atitarev: Yes, I do mean this example, that’s what I have asked – for me тех is likely stressed in such a contrastive context. This contrastive context can also be implied. So it depends on what the speakers wants to stress, if it is this time or if it is these по́ры. Fay Freak (talk) 13:08, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Fay Freak: Theoretically, any word can be stressed, even "тех" but this is uncommon even when you wish to say "from THAT time on" and wasn't the original question. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 11:21, 20 February 2019 (UTC)
