I hope I transcribed this correctly into modern orthography: "Грешно е да се твърди, че се е пишело «огѫнь», щом последващата съгласна «н» обира носовостта на предхождащата я гласна. Според правописа български от Освобождението насам думата винаги се е изписвала «огънь»."

If I understand correctly, the IP is saying that the letter "н" takes away the nasalization from the preceding "ѫ", and thus it was written with "ъ". When I was doing research on this word before, I encountered both the spellings "огѫнь" and "огънь", so I guess it would be justifiable to have both entries. @Bogorm: Any thoughts? --WikiTiki89 15:02, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

After rereading what I myself wrote in Wiktionary:Etymology scriptorium/2014/August#Proto-Slavic *ogǫnь, I think the spelling "огѫнъ" is probably not justified. --WikiTiki89 19:28, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
