"The word люд, which is a collective noun, is a separate word from люди." > but I suppose they share the same etymology, right ? --Fsojic (talk) 20:03, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- люд is from a Common Slavonic form which was also the etymon of OCS людъ. It is related to Old Russian людиѥ (люди) and OCS людиє at some ancient time. It is cognate with Lithuanian liaudis (народ), Latvian ļaudis (люди), German Leute, Ancient Greek ἐλεύθερος (свободный человек), Latin līber, līberī. —Stephen (Talk) 21:02, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
- Right, so they do. The formulation had left me sceptical. --Fsojic (talk) 21:08, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
