It's originally from a family name, see w:ru:Лиманский. It can also be an adjective, which allows more uses, such as Лиманский залив, лиманский червь (Nereis virens), лиманский РЭС (районная электрическая сеть), Лиманский районный суд, etc. I can't think of any other reasons for that. —Stephen ^(Talk) 03:41, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
