@Per utramque cavernam: Yes, Vasmer speaks against a connection of ку́ча (kúča, “heap”) with *kǫťa. The former is listed under *kuča in ESSJa, but there is a ton of old and dialectal East Slavic material under *kǫtja too, including Russian dialectal ку́ча (kúča, “a kind of hut”) (as if unknown to Vasmer). From these same words Derksen cites too, so placing ку́ча (kúča, “heap”) under *kǫťa is a mistake. Guldrelokk (talk) 16:44, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
