no short forms

[edit]

Doesn't кида́ньский (kidánʹskij) have the same short forms as русский (russkij)?

они́ говори́ли по-кида́ньски.

@Stephen G. Brown Hi Stephen. This is an adverb. -ский-adjectives don't have short forms, including ру́сский (rússkij). See also ру́сски (rússki), only used in по-ру́сски (po-rússki). --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:02, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I knew it was an adverb, but I always assumed it was a function of the short form (even though, unlike other short forms, this form is never used as a predicate adjective). —Stephen (Talk) 07:10, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's only an adverb, "по-ру́сски". The form without "по-" can only be used in listings sometimes, eg по-русски, английски, французски. Not all adjectives have short forms, -ский-adjs are among them. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 07:20, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
