@Benwing2, Atitarev: Hello. Is the etymology splitting necessary, or could they be merged? --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 11:58, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

They do ultimately come from the same root but have different stress patterns, transitivity and distinct meanings and usages. I'll leave it up to you. Ushakov seems to treat them as the same verb. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 12:09, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
The best option imo would be to find out what the original variant is, give it the header "Etymology 1" and a full PSl. etymology, and simply say of the other "Originally a variant of...". --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 11:09, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Incidentally, what would be the PSl. form? *vorťati? --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 17:56, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Per utramque cavernam I split them etymologically because I suspect they do have distinct etymological origins, at least to some extent. вороча́ть clearly comes from imperfectivizing -я́ть (-játʹ) added to вороти́ть (vorotítʹ). воро́чать is less clear but would need its own explanation for why it has a different stress pattern. Vasmer has an entry specifically for воро́чать, although it isn't too clear. Benwing2 (talk) 23:34, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
