(Notifying Benwing2, Cinemantique, KoreanQuoter, Useigor, Wanjuscha, Wikitiki89, Stephen G. Brown, Per utramque cavernam, Guldrelokk): : You might find it interesting and this is also contentious. A few decades ago failure to decline proper nouns ending in -ово, -ёво, -ево, -ино and ыно was considered illiterate. Now, thanks to media usage, a lot of these place are thought to be indeclinable and some people even consider declension of these terms illiterate. (Note that adding a word for "village", "city" in front should make them indeclinable in any case, e.g. "в городе Иваново" - "in the city of Ivanovo"). @Cinemantique Thanks, it's confirming that declining these proper nouns is the literary norm but says it's possible to have both variants:

Топонимы славянского происхождения, оканчивающиеся на -ово, -ево, -ино, -ыно, не склоняются в сочетании с родовым словом: из района Люблино, в сторону района Строгино, к району Митино, в городе Иваново, из деревни Простоквашино, до края Косово. Если же родового слова нет, то возможны оба варианта, склоняемый и несклоняемый: в Люблине и в Люблино, в сторону Строгина и в сторону Строгино, в Иванове и в Иваново, из Простоквашина и из Простоквашино, до Косова и до Косово, к Митину и к Митино, 8-й микрорайон Митина и 8-й микрорайон Митино. При этом склоняемый вариант соответствует строгой литературной норме. Словарь Л. К. Граудиной, В. А. Ицковича, Л. П. Катлинской «Грамматическая правильность русской речи» указывает: «В образцовом литературном стиле (со сцены, с телеэкрана, в радиоречи) эти формы следует склонять».

I would label non-declension as something like ‘traditionally proscribed’, I believe such notes are useful. A lot of people will still object to it. Guldrelokk (talk) 11:00, 13 May 2018 (UTC)
