@Erutuon: συγκρητίζω apparently exists, so the suffix might be -μός, unless the verb is a back-formation from the noun. The chronological argument might help (although both words are too rarely attested for it to be really compelling), but LSJ is using an obscure abbreviation.
- “συγκρητίζω”, in Liddell & Scott (1940) A Greek–English Lexicon, Oxford: Clarendon Press > attested in EM732.55. (??)
- “συγκρητισμός”, in Liddell & Scott (1940) A Greek–English Lexicon, Oxford: Clarendon Press > attested in Plutarchus
What do you think? --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 21:49, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Per utramque cavernam: I'd say if the noun is attested first, it might be more conservative to say the verb is a back-formation (albeit entirely grammatical) from the noun. But I don't know what the shorthand EM732.55 means. For what it's worth, the OED derives the noun from the verb (in the entries for syncretism and syncretize). — Eru·tuon 21:59, 22 January 2018 (UTC)
